TROTTING
THU AUCKLAND MEETING. (By Telegraph—Special Correspondent.) .■■ m :' Auckland, April 21. The Auckland Trotting Club's autumn meeting- opened in dull Dut lino weather to. largo attendance. 'The totalisator handled .£15,104, against ,£12,157 last year.' Eleven started in the Campbell Handicap, the public choice being Pax, Jolly Girl, Lady Haldane, and Harold Junior in that:order. It was a good race. At the end of the 1 first round Jolly Girt and Waverley were leading. Jowel Chimes, who got away well and had cut a. good deal off hie handicap, looked dangerous for a while, but half a mile from home he appeared to be tiring. Harold Junior ohalleaged Jolly Girl in the laat' lap, and Steel Bell was steadily going up. Jolly, girl and Harold Junior fought out a' great finish, the result being in doubt until the post was reached,.. the former winning by a neck. Steel Bell ■was a few lengths behind, going strongly; Tiady Haldane and Pax were nerer out of ,the ruck. In tho Stewards' Trot Handicap the favourite, Billy Parole, gave rather a surprising- performance. He got away well, but gave trouble before .a quarter of a mile had been . covered, the whqlo field getting' away from him. Ho appeared to'be out of the race, but got going again most willingly, and half a mile from home began to cut through tho field in.resolute fashion. He succeeded in getting alongside tho- leader, Auckland Girl, but could not sustain his dashing effort quite long enough to win, being beaten by half a length. ' The public made Derby Dillon a.hot order in the Cornwall Handicap. He jumped off the limit mark smartly, and soon settled down steadily for hie mile journey. Prince Enfus oame'npy and looked dangerous for a while, but could •not maintain his opposition. Steel Bell (36 yards'behind) was then seen moving up. in fine.style, and after a great race down the straight he succeeded in beating the favourite by a length. 1 ..
