LIGHT ECONOMY AND EARLY CLOSING

Sir,—l notice that shops, etc., are all being asked to close earlier to save gas, coal, etc., for absolute need. May 1 ask if the liquor bars are to close at 5.30? I em't understand why this one particular trade always seems to be exempted, when service and sacrifice, are asked; for; but perhaps I am, as the Americans say, "A little too previous, , " and these places will bo asked to close also at 5.30 for' the nation's good. Awaiting your reply with interest,—l am, etc., LOYALIST.

[There is no compulsion at present for anyone to close their premises early, but it may become a matter of' necessity ere long.]
