SHOOTING PRISONERS
GERMAN DESERTER'S STORY

April 22, 5.5. .p.m.) London, April 20 The "Daily Chronicle's" Amsterdam correspondent lias obtained from a reliable source an educated German, deserter's statement regarding the shooting of prisoners. He says that in June, 1915, ho saw .ten.British prisoners. A German sergeant-major o[ cavalry earned Nieino was ordered to take the prisoners 'along, lie wont a short distance and; then said: "I do not want to ho bothcred i with these- fellows. The ten Britisli prisoners wore placed in line and shot. On another occasion two hundred British prisoners at i/oos wero sent to Frankfort, but only eighty arrived. The remainder wero shot. Tho deserter said lie heard of worse cases than these- two, which were within his own knowledge, and added:
"The responsible officers did not order the shooting of prisoners. In one- instance a. lieutenant was sentenced for doing 60, and received merely five days in prison, hut tho guard sergeants often ordered shooting."—Aus.-If.Z. Cafole Assn. • ■ , - ';..- ■■'■■:
