DUTIES SEPARATED
ADJUTANT AND QTJARTER- . MASTER. '■ General Orders state ,that in future the duties -of adjutant and quartermaster of a Territorial unit will be performed by separate officers, and, will not bo combined for discharge by a permanent-officer. It has been usual in the past to combine the duties. Officers commanding units 'will appoint regimental officers of lower rank than .field rank to act as regimental quartermasters for terms not to exceed two years. Theso officers will continue to serve under the same terms regarding promotion, seniority, and examinations as the older officers of their ranks. The word "quartermaster," in brackei*, will follow, in the' Army List, th« name of the_ officer acting as > quartermaster to his unit_ pro tem. . • . Officers who at present hold appointments as regimental , nuartermasters and who have.passed the prescribed examination as combatant officers in that arm may be absorbed into establishment, with the rank for which their examination qualified them, and a ouartcrmaster detailed. ' Officers of this class who have not so qualified i for combatant runic, but. who discharge their duties efficiently, may retain their present appointments until j thev reach the age-limit of their rank, and will continue to he shown in the Army List as at present; but in future no officer will be appointed or promoted purely as a quartermaster.«
