Glendalough and Gold- - mount also fell.
, The. Avondale Handicap was little more than a working gallon for Colonel Soult (Ashley Reed took hfm to the front at the end of three .furlongs, and from thence onwards it was only a, procession, Colonel Soult winning in • a canter by four lengths,.. With. Ijlie exception of the winner the field ran pretty well toget'her, and there was a good race for the places. St. Francis, an outsider, stayed on" well, and beat Glenspire! for second money. El Gallo was also doing -well at the end, and was close up fourth. Jack Delaval ran in.the.lead for three furlongs, and then dropped right back, finishing sixty yards away last. ; Carmont, rider of Glenspiro, had his ,foot badly bruised through coming in.on the fence. .The Chevalier' Steeplechase was a great betting event, but the race itself was not .very interesting. Gluterino led for tho greater part of the journey, and then tired, leaving Ranza. Mist to win easily by ten lengths from Captain Lock, who ■was kept too far out of it in the early part, and over the last six furlong 3 was giving the winner 100' yards start. GluteTino got third. None of the others finished. .
Ths Railway Handicap -was spoiled.liy Hioro falling when gallopinz on Hie heels of Rimj.Lupin and Mill .o',Gowrie at the tiu-n.. three furlongs from home. "When Hiero fell' fab interfered with practically nil the. field. Ring Lupin' and Mill o' : Gowrio both nearly went off the course at the home'turn, and Roy Reed shot Lightning tfp on the fence, and in a. good finish Lightning won hy .1 neck, with Mill o' Gowrie a hrad away. ' Kauri Kins, Glenopal, and Meltchikoff had most followers for the W-lter Handicap.' M'Pllnn, on Pandooa,. tried to (steal a maroh down the wick, but Meltchikoff and Kami King had liim at the home turn, where the leader fell. Kauri King won comfortably from Meltchikoff.
