STIFF TRAINING BEFORE THEY ARE PASSED'FOR WORK. For. the 300 positions as policewomen offered by the Ministry \of -Munitions, tho Women's Police Service are receiving at their- new, headquarters at St. Stephen's House, Westminster, a creat number of applications. They have already selected GO, a representative of the "Daily News" , was informed on January 31, including some women who are at present teachers, librarians, nurses, book-keopers, and one or two who havo been in control of canteens. Tif.y must bo educated women, it was insisted, and not only educated, but also women who do not mind hard work. Look at- the traininp: that tests them: At 9.30 every morning they must report for roll call. Some are then sent on patrol work in London, and others to tho police courts. In tho afternoon more patrol >work and attendance at the children's courts, and from 4 to 5 instruction from inspectors in special duties. Five to six is tho hour of drill, with instructionr in stretcher work and first .aid. Then from 8 till 10 comes moro patrol work to conclude tho day. ■ The majority of those who pass the test_ are sent to munition factories. iHiere there are classes, leadine up to" tTTo actual work, for patrol duty, searching,-' checking passports, and so on. Tlie women live in barracks, just like men. Pay at tho rate of 255. a week is given to the women directly they are taken on by the Sprviee, and "s soon, as they \are passed for uniform, which they haveyto supply themselves, they eo to the factories and receive £'2 a week.
