Although' the swimming club was unable to resume operations, the cricket and football clubs again took part in . the iom-. petitions, with .very creditable, results.. With'tho exception of tho Old Boys' War Memorial. Service 'no functions were held by the association during the year.. "Old .Boys' Day" of tho year 1916 .was -made a. "Memorial Day" in the be.st and-truest sense of the. word. 'Old .Boys and their: friends met on the - collego grounds on the afternoon of' Saturday, -Decomber 2,' and took part in a most-'impressive memorial servico to. tlioso Old Boys who have fallen in'tho war.-Last vear a special appeal was made to Old-Boys to subscribe to an- "Old Boys' War Memorial 'Fund," tho, idea being to obtain photos of all Old Boys who had enlisted, to ■ ompanol them '.in a' convenient • room in the old \school,. andto erect a suitable tablet witli the names of our fallen comr.-ules inscribed thereon. Since then ' various suggestions ■ of how to commemorate tho" deeds of Old Boys in the War were discussed, and, your - committee camo' to tho. conclusion that the best form for a memorial would bo a groat Assembly Hall at the college, wherein the boys would meet, every day and have before them tho records- of iho sacrifice and heroism 'of their predecessors. With this end in view subscriptions were incited, tho intention beiig to lav the' foundation: stoiio sonni -time during tho vear 1917 to' celebrate tho school jubilee vear, - and -eventually to complete the-hall as a lasting memorial to the gallant deeds.of Old Boys. The sum asked for is £5000. Tlie" committee regrets that .the appeal has so far not been responded 'to a,s they hoped; a further appeal will therefore bo made.
