COMING ELECTIONS

.BOROUGH MAYORALTIES." The coming .elections are not creating much interest 60 far-among the electors. Those in 'touch - with municipal, affairs are, of course; concerned, but the outside feeling appears to be in favour of letting things; go on as they arc. Eastbourne will have to find a new Mayor. Mr. J. P. Kelly has definitely decided not to stand again, though pressed 1 to do so. At Petono Mr.'•J. W. M'Ewan, who has been a Mayoral fixture for a.number of years, is- once more in the field. It is said that he may have to contest the seat this time,- as it is understood that Mr. Alex. Anderson has .Mayoral ambitions. At Karori it is probable that Mr. B. G. H. Burn, the sitting Mayor, will have a walk-over for the position. At least so faT there is no talk of any opposition. A contest is practically assured at Lower Hutt. Some three months ago Mr. H. Baldwin, the present Mayor, more than hinted'that he would'like to jay aside the cares of Mayoral office, owing to the strain upon his time, and energies. But at present there is* a requisition being numerously, signed at the Hutt, asking Mr. Baldwin to once more allow himself to be nominated for the position. His announced rival for office will be Councillor J. Ball.

Regarding the Miramar Mayoralty, Mr. F. -Townsend states that ho is propared to allow himself to bo nominated once more under certain conditions. • Those conditions are of material consideration to the borough, and would be announced as .soon as-ho had the opportunity of consulting with his council.

Mr. C..C. Crump, Mayor of Onslow, has decided to ■ allow himself to he nominated again. : Feeling has been running high in the council and borough, owing to the water supply, and it would surprise no one if Mr. Crump had to contest the election. CLOSING DATE FOR NOMINATIONS. • The closing date for the receipt of nominations for the Mayoralty, • City Council, and tho city members of the Wellington Harbour Board and Wellington Hospital and Charitable , Aid Board has been fixed by the returning officer (Mr. Jas. Amos) for April 14.
