GIFT TOBACCO
Sir, —Your' articles of March 23 and 24 duly read. Assuredly no smoker would find the fault with "Three Castles" or "Capstan," tobacco that it was worthless. But it is making-too great a demand on the credulity of the ordinary human to say that the soldiers want only "Capstan" or "Three Castles." It will bo much better to follow tlio advice of ' Chaplain-Major Green, and to let him and his helpers (whose business it is) get for the men the tobacco they prefer, with the advantage, equally important, of getting more for the money ft an can possibly he got by any scheme originated m New Zealand. ' . .. Other aspects of this case will D 9 evident to any onlooker without further remark; the benefit to,the men at the front' is all that need engage onr attention.' And it is evident that to send the money from New Zealand through the Mayor, or by„ any other recognised means, will prevent the raising of questions that .inevitably -will attend th© sending of' the tobacco (as witness your articles).—l ain, eto.j DAJRK. HAVELOCK. March 24.
