TROUBLE OVER A HOME RULE MOTION
_ -J_9 _ . INCIDENT AT CTTRTRTCHURCH CITY COUNCIL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchuroh, March 27. 'At tlie City Council meeting last' nigbfc, Mr. M'Combs, M.P.,_ inorod a motion in favour of granting Homo Rule to Ireland and asking the Governor to forward a. message to tlie Imperial authorities. . The Mayor (Mr. Holland) ruled siicl? a- motion out of order, but Mr. M'Combs moved that the council disagree with the Mayor's ruling. This motion was' carried by eight votes to soven. A number of councillors then left the chamber. The Home Rule motion was finally carried in this form: "Thafr this council views with pleasure tho resolution of trie Imperial Government to mako, another effort to settle thelrisli pnjblom. and believes tho winning or Irinli confidence of eup'reme importance to causo of Britain and her 'Allies."
