A Press Association message from Melbourne states that Dr. J. A, Gilruth, whose term of office as Administrator of the Northern Territory has expired, will administer the Territory pending a permanent appointment. The Hon. A. T. Maginnity, M.L.0., of Nelson, was a passenger by the Pateona lost evening, and is staying at the Hoyal Oak Hotel.

A Press Association message from Dunedin states that Mr. Joseph Braithwaito, an ex-Mayor of Dunedin, and for a great number of years a leading bookseller, h dead, aged seventy years.

At the meeting of the Kaiori Borough Council last evening, Councillors Skegg, Hamilton, Faire, Henderson, and Pell announced their intention of seeking re-election. The Mayor (Mr. B. G, H. Burn) intends to off or himself for ©leotion to the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board.

Mr. R. T. Michaels, who has been a member of the Auckland City Council for eight years, is making a trip to England in order to see his son, who left with the Main Body, who was wounded on several occasions, and has now been granted a commission as a reward for bravery in the field. Mrs. Miohaels, who went. Home recently, will return with Mr. Michaels.

The Rev. J. B. Suckling, superintendent of the Pukekohe Methodist Circuit, who recently was appointed to New Britain, has, according to the "New Zealand Herald," been notified that the appointment has been cancelled on account of the unsuitability of the climate for his children. He has been stationed by the president at Oaversham, Dunedin.

The death is recorded at Lyttelton on Friday laßt of Mr. James Grubb, the second Bon of the late Mr. John Grubb, who arrived in Lyttelton iu 3848 and was tho carrier of the first mails between Lyttelton and Wellington in the sonoort-< cr Canterbury. Mr. John Grubß was tho constructor of the first wharf in -tho port, known in the olden days as Screw Pile Jetty. ' Subsequently he entered into partnership with Mr. Allan as Messrs. Grubb and Allan, shipwrisrhts. Mr. James Grubb served under his father, finishing off at Dunedin. Returning to Lyttelton, ho todk over the business from his father, and was for the last thirty-five years master shipwright for the Union Steam Ship Company at the port. Mr. Grubb became a member of tho Lyttelton Bor-. ough Council in 1895, and was again returned in 1898. He was elected ■ Mayor iu 1902. In 1904 and 1905 he once more sat as a councillor. ' Mr. Grubb was a foundor member of the Canterbury Kilwlnning Lodge, then under the Grand Lodge of Scotland, and afterwards joined tho Grand Lodge of Now Zealand. . Bro. Grubb. was P.G.D., and also Master of the Canterbury Kilwiunhig in 1881, 1883, 1887, 1890, and 1893. Mrs. Grubb predeceased her husband , twelve years, ago. Mr. Grubb leaves a family of two sons and five daughters. The elder Bon was recently reported wounded in the Sontme battle; the second, who was at the landing at Gallipoli, has been invalided homo.
