I Messrs. Burns, Phllp and Co. have had plans prepared for the building of a large fleot of auxiliary sohooners for the ' carrying of copra and general cargo from and to the island*. The growing trade done by this Australian company is a re- " suit of the elimination of German trade. Prior to the war German interests largely predominated in the island business. It was the custom of Messrs. Burns, Philp and Co. merely to carry the copra and other produce to Australia., and the Germans transhipped it to German vessels at Sydney for Germany. Now Messrs. Burns, Philp and Co. huy tho copra and cipor,t it to America, where It is treated. To do this it has been tho practice to. take whatever freight might. be offering, and charter schooners to lift the remainder. Heavy freight charges, however, have hampered the firm, and thoy are now seeking to huild their own vessels. It is proposed that auxiliary schooners will be employed in carrying the copra to tho Pacific Coast-, returning with lumber for Sydney. As there is great scarcity of this alass of freight now, and tho demand for lumber is great, the prospeots for tho vessels aro assured. It is almost certain that the company will order sit vessels at once. Colonel Burns, managing director, is at presont in Melbourne inquiring into the matter. INVBECARGMi ARRIVES. .
