CIVIL SERVICE TOURNEY

CLUB RESULTS ] Favoured by tho best of weather, the inter-Departmental tournament held on the Thorndon green on Saturday was a great success. A start was made at 9 o'clock, and all day long ;t succession of games (of 16 heads) kept interest nlivo, as one by one every team in tho tournament lost and won a match. It was not until live o'clock that the winners of the two sections were announced, and the final was then entered upon and finished by 6.30, when the linn all-round team' of the Government Printing Office were declared the champions, after a hardfought and exciting same. Prior to the playing of the final match, Coloiipl Collins, C.M.G., 1.g.0. (Auditor-Gen-eral), as the senior Civil Servant there, expressed tho pleasure felt by all present at the success that had attended tho tournament, and trusted it would he the prelude to future and equally successful contests. Thanks were due to the directors of the Thorndon Club, who had placed their green at the disposal of the promoters of the tourna-

ment, to Mrs. Itonaldson, who had provided a most enjoyable afternoon tea for all the competitors, and to tho secretary of the contest (Mr. Jounisin). The affair was a capital way of bringing Civil Servants into touch with one another, and formed a pleasant break in their daily work. Next year it was hoped to hold a larger tournament. and nioro fully representative of the numerous departments of the service. Detailed results are as follow:— \, , First Section.
