SOUTHERN MARKETS
Chrlstchuroh, March 16. There is not a large quantity of wheat offering, as much of the grain is still unthrashed. There is a good demand for any lots that came forward. The shortage in the Southland oats crop has caused the market to firm considerably during the past fortnight, and for prime samples 3s. sd. to 3s. Bd. is now being offered locally and in Southland, the present ruling prices are reported to be 3s. to 3s. 3d. on trucks. Oatsheaf chaff is a little firmer but has not yet advanced to the extent that oats have done and is quoted at £8 10s. to £3 15s. for immediate delivery at country stations. Eye-grass seed has also advanced in price in consequence of damage done to the crop by rain in Southland, and tho high ■price ruling there for good hiding seed. There is a good demand from the North Island, which has waited for the Southland crop before filling requirements. There is a fair demand for potatoes at £4 7s. 6d. for March, and £4 to £4 ss. for April-May delivery..
