FIRES IN SAWMILLS

IS THERE AN ORGANISED PLOTP By Telegraph —Press Association. Auckland, March 15. Seven fires have occurred within five months in sawmills in the Auckland provincial district, resulting in almost every instance in the complete destruction of the plants and stocks of timber. The mills concorned arc: Ootober 16, mite Pine Co., of New Zealand; Nauraai: October 20 t Gibbon s, Tangowhine; December 2, Bagnall Bros, and Co., Auckland; January 5, Elub and Burnand, Hamilton; January Loaf, Mangaturoto; February 20, oodsey and Allen, Dargaville; and March 10, Northern Timber Co., Huntly._ A suggestive and even suspicious circumstance is that in every instance the mill was engaged eithor in the manufacture of butter boxes or the production of timber for tho purpose. At the present tho export of butter for the troops is a .matter of much importance, and that coincidence has given rise to speculation to whether thoro may not bo a conspiracy engineered for tho interruption or the supplies. The origin of all fires is mysterious, .but it is a remarkable fact that in several instances tho outbreak oeourred within an hour or so after the suspension of work for the day.
