CIVIL SERVANT TO GAOL.

Nelson, March 15. In the Supreme Court to-day Donald Murray Matheson, formerly chief clerk in the Railway Department at Nelson, was found guilty of theft of £628 18s. lid., the property of tho Government, and on two counts of forgery by altering the dates of bank certificates. Accused was recommended to mercy, and was sentenced to twelve months imprisonment.
