STATEMENT IN THI3 HOUSE OP COMMONS. (Rcc. March 1!!, 8.10 p.m.) London, March 12. Roplying Lo questions in tho House of Commons, Mr. Austen Chamberlain (Secretary of State for India) stated that ib was not intended to grant preference to British or Dominions cotton manufactures in India, as compared with the Allies. His aim was to obtain revenue for war purposes. Ho had tho Paris resolutions in mind when tho duty was framed, but those could not he applied until tho Imperial fiscal policy was considered, after the war. , •—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
