J OPENING OF THE SEASON. ; Tho Miramar Golf Club opened its 3 soason on Saturday afternoon. It was J a beautifully fine afternoon, and there * was an attendance of about 250 memrf bers and their friends. T The president of the club, Mr. ,T. P. 4 Firth, in a brief address to members, I exhorted them to go on contributing I<i 3 the patriotic funds. He made special 1 reference to t!io patriotic "effort of the I ladies.of tho .club, commending them j highly for their industry and self--5 sacrifice. He expressed tho opinion i regarding tho playing of golf and other 1 games iu war tirno that those wlic i could not. go to the -par wero perfectly right to go on with their healthful J sports ancl exercises at home. Mr, Firth spoke also of tho loss tho chit i| was to sustain shortly in the loss ol its secretary (Mr. G. 0. Sutton), wild goes into camp in three weeks, and he expressed .appreciation of the generous offer of the club captain (Mr. W. E, ' A. Gill) to look after tho club's affairs for Mr. Sutton during 1113 absence. During the afternoon several competitions wero held. The results were as -follow: — . . Men's Drive.—P. Blundell, 211 yard's, ' 1; L. B. Hurst, 207 yards, 2; Hay Mackenzie, 206 yards, 3. Ladios' Drive. —Miss Gambrill, 156 vards, 1; Miss M. Wheeler, 144 yards, 2. Approaching and Putting (80 yards distance).—Miss M. Ward won the ladies' competition, and Mr. Graves, of the Johnsonville Club, the men's, each scoring a two.
