MILITARY SERVICE BOARD
MARINE ENGINEERS
EXEMPTIONS NOT GRANTED
The Third Wellington Military Service Board sat on Saturday. The board consists of Messrs. W. H. S. Moorhouse (chairman), A. O'L. Considine, and M. J. Mack.
Reserved decisions were given in the cases of the following ' marine- engineers:—Erie Allan Cole, dismissed; George Clement Wadsworth, leave till March 28; Leonard Prescoti Draper, leave till return of his vessel; John G. Ward, leave till return of liis vessel; Alexander Murray Wishart, leave till March 28; Arthur W". Baglcy, leave till return of his vessel. Michael O'Suilivan, sixth engineer on a Union Company vessel, did not appear, and his case was adjourned for a month. Adjournments sine die were made in the following seamen's, appeals :— George Watt Ernest George Allan, William John Jones, and John Quin; also in tho case* of James Patrick Hourigan, slaughterman. Appeals by John Reynolds, seaman, and' James M'Knight, fireman, were dismissed.
William H. Powell, Grant Road, who had been drawa in tho ballot, said that he had already nerved at the front, and was willing to go again. On his undertaking tliat ho would re-enlist his appeal .was allowed.
Herbert Noel Godfrey, 14 Marion Street, whose ground of appeal was undue hardship, was granted a month's extension of time...
llalph H. Skipworth, a starter at race meetings, asked for a month's loave to'fuliil several engagements. He was given until April 28.
Religious scruples was the ground on which Frank Hooper, farmer, Reikiorangi, appealed. Tlio appeal was dismissed.
Leave till June 3 was granted James Smith, a puller in tho Gear Company's fellmongery department.
An appeal by George Charles N. Merry was allowed. The board held that he was not a reservist.
An adjournment sine dio was made in the case of John Bruton, pclico_ constable, for ' whom Commissioner O'Donovan appealed on tho ground of public interest.
An appeal lodged for Arthur Charles Clements, railway surfaceman, was formally dismissed. It was said that Clements was a voluntary recruit, and that he. was | resigning from the Railday Department; and did not desire the leave applied for. : ■•■ ■
An extension of timo. was sought in the caso of Eric James Fuller, traveller for Levin and Co. The firm wished to accustom a returned soldier to tho work. The request was refused. Joseph Walkler,. a fireman, was found to bo a Second Division man.
