EDUCATION BOARD
ENLARGING THE EXECUTIVE. The Wellington Education Board held its monthly meeting yesterday morning. There were present: The Hon. J. G. AV. Aitken (chairman), J. KebbelJ, T. Moss, G. London.' AV. Allan, AV. H. Field, B. A. AVright, T. Forsyth, A. AV. Hogg, H. Penney, A. Mackay, and E. P. Itishworth. The statement of finances showed the dobit balance on general, building, technical, and' manual accounts, etc., was £645 Is. 10d., as against a debit of £1109 13s. Id. on January 31. The receipts for February amounted to £12,975 12s. 7d., and the payments £12,511 Is. 4d. Authorisations for sites, etc., totalled £3504 Is. Id. Tho statement was received and adopted. Mr. A. Mackay moved: "That the Efntfc representatives on the board lie added to the executive." ' He. also asked leave to include the name of Mr. AV. H. Field.
Mr. A. AV. Hogg thought that the whole of the members of the board should he included on the executive. He noticed that two meetings of the executive had been held, and very important business had been transacted. He deprecated the "hole and corner" methods that were being adopted, mid moved as an amendment that all 'members of the board be, members of the executive.
Mr. R. A. Wright rose to a point of order.
Mr. Hogs: "Oh. you're full of -points of order. You've learnt that since you became a member of Parliament." (Laughter.)
Mr. AVright explained that his point of oriVr was that he doubted wh«th"r Mr. Hogg had the right to nrmlv to the work of a committee constitutionally set up the epithet that "holo and corner" methods were jidopterl.
The chairman said that Mr. Hogg had no ritrlit to • apr>lv suoh an epithet, but ho d'd not think that he meant it in an offensive way.
Mr. Wright explained that the executive was only a committee, and merely went into matters for tho enlightenment of the board.
The chairman said that if they made the whole of the board the executive, it would simoly mean that such meetings would be meetings of the hoard, and would mean two or three meetings a month instead of one.
Mr. Hogg moved as an amendment that the whole of the members bo members of the executive.
On being put, the amendment was lost, and the motion was carried, adding the names of Messrs. London, Rishworth. and Field to the executive.
An application from Mr. J. White for the re-estahlishmcnt of a school at Hitana was referred to the Chief Inspector. The same course was adopted in respect to an application from Mr. G. Wells for a school at Omniri .Valley.
The chairman announced' tnat a special school grant for school readers, which had been stopped, had been made available apain. An application for participation in the grant from the Berhampore Scnool was refened to the officers of tho hoard.
An application for the removal of the school at Altatarawa to a- more convenient position, and another for a separate infant department.at Upper Hutt were deferred for further information. , s
