FRENCH LINER SUNK AMERICAN MISSIONARY HILLED SHIP SUNK WITHOUT WARNING Washington, February' 23. A submarine sank the French liner Athos (12,644 tons) east of Malta on February 17. Robert Allen Hadden, an American missionary from China, was killed.— Ahs.-N.Z. Cable Assn, Washington, February 23. The United States Consul at Malta reported that it is understood that there were troops aboard the Athos, sunk by a submarine near Malta.
