■ ■ I ; 'TO-DAY'S CHAMPIONSHIP ■ CARNIVAL. Tho New Zealand 6chools"-?swimming championships will be decided at the Te Aro Baths this afternoon. It is anticipated that some very close finishes will be seen. To-day's carnival will be the first 'of its kind evsr held in.New Zealand, and enthusiasts hope that the public will make it thoir business to see | that such a commendable gathering .liecomes a' recognised annual institution. In a country like New Zealand, swimming amongst the vounger generation is of prime importance, and a carnival of this kind should 'do much to help the sport onward. Teams wilt be present from most of the bis swimming centres, from Auckland to Dunedin, and, besides the four big events, there will be the Puthie Cup competitions, in., which ;a team of four bovs from each sr<hool in Wellington will compete. The .Trenthnm Camp Band will provide music during the afternoon. If wet, the carnival willtake place in the Tepid Baths, Tasman Street. ' _^____
