« MR. J. L. H. LEDGER RETIRES. On Monday next Mr. J. L. H. Ledger, Controller of Money Orders and Savings Banks in the Post and Telegraph Department, severs his connection with that Department, retiring on a superannuation allowance after 40 years' service. Mr. Lodger is perhaps tho only officer in tho Government service to-day who has served for the whole of his official career in the one office. Mr. .Ledger joined the service as a cadet in the Head Office on February 26, 1877, was. appointed to a clerkship in 1881, and in December. 1895, took up tho position of second clerk in the Accountant's branch. This position he occupied until April. 1900, when he was appointed first clerk, and some seven years later succeeded tho present Secretary of tho Department, Mr. W. R. Morns, as Assistant Controller of the Money Orders and Savings Banks. In 1908, on Mr.'Morris's appointment to tho position of Assistant Secretary of tho Department, Mr. Ledger became Controller of Money Orders and Savings Banks and Accountant of the General Post Office, which position he has occupied up to the present. Mr. Ledger is being succeeded by Mr. H. A. R. Huggins, at present Chief Accountant of tho Department, who, in addition to his present duties, is taking:up tho control of money orders and savings banks. Mr. Huggins has been in the service, since 1883, and similarly has spent the whole of his official career iii the General Post Offico. Tho new Controller and Accountant is well known throughout the service, and has represented the officers of the service for many years on tho Superannuation Board. The new position of Assistant Controller has been crested/and Mr. F. T. R. Johnson, at present first clerk in the Accountant's Branch, lias been appointed to it. Mr. R. Booth, Assistant Superintendent of the Telegraph Office, Dunedin. has been appointed Superintendent of Dunedin. as successor to Mr. 18. H. Keys, who retired from tho service on December 81 last. Mr. H. Edser, relieving postmaster of the Otago District, has been promoted to a similar position inthc Wellintgon district.
