FREEZING WORKS STRIKE

The strike of chamber-bauds in the employ of the Auckland Farmers' Freezing Company at the Westfieldl Freezing Works has been set'tlecl, and the men ivill resume work to-morrow: morning. The hands named struck on Wednesday last owing to their demands for higher wagee not being acceded tov Efforts to sottle the dispute by con-' ciliatory methods were abortive until.' yesterday. In the meantime the worky at Southdown, Horotiu, and WestfiekH had to bo closed down, throwing out off work over 200 employees other than the. chamber-hands. At the instance of the> Minister of Industries and Commerce, (the Hon. D.'S. Mac Donald), the, Board of Trade, members of which, are at preseuftin Auckland,- negotiated, ■with the parties with a view of endeavouring to effect a settlement. As the result of these negotiations- \ the employers and the men have signed an agreement to refer all matters in dispute to the Labour Disputes Committee, to be set up under the Labour Disputes Investigation Act, 1913, ,tne Mayor (Mr. Gunson) consenting to act as chairman. Tho parties agreed to accept the committee's decision on all poinis as anct further agreed that the committee's, decision shall be retrospective to the> date when work is to be resumed.
