Deprived of nitrogenous material from South America, Germany Las, einco the outbreak of war, greatly developed the process for the manufacture of artificial nitratoß. Germany spent £25,000,000 after the war began to enable hor chemists and engineers to turn out a sufficient amount of nitric acid.
