Yesterday iras a busy day on the rrhnrres. TWe was a great deal ;i shipping in port, and suoti a strong demand £or )abour that all tlio available men were employed. The question of work on the collier Kittawa, about which trouble arose on' Friday, was not raised, for the ship was not "put up" at all at any labour call during the day. The Kakapo, the other collier about which trouble arose, lias been unloaded, and she has left tho port.
AUCKLAND DISPUTE CONCILIATION COUNCIL IN SESSION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, February 19. The Conciliation. Council is occupied with a claim filed by the Shipping Companies against the New Zealand Watersiders' Union and the Auckland Watersiders' Union in respect to conditions of labour on the waterfront. The employees' claim is practically identical with the expiring award. Claims for higher pay and easier working conditions having been made by the watersiders, a conference was held, but the parties failed to agroe. The Watereiders' Unions did not appoint assesI sots, and tho Commissioner appointed representative workers in that capacity. Later. The Conciliation Commissioner adjourned the watersiders' dispute at the request of the unv» assessors, to enable them to become fully .conversant with their task.
