Farmers arc offering their wheat freely to millers,.who are securing a stock while there is a good chance of prime milling available. There is so fur not such a demand lor Pearl for mixing purposesas the Hunters and Tuscan wheat is uuusualiy dry and hard. Merchants are also making some purchases, but, most .of the offerings are to the*nailers, who have; had numerous samples submitted to them*' during the week. A considerable amount of threshing has already been done, but. in the..outside districts there is a shortage of' Hhreshing mills, and farmers are unable to get their c **ops dealt with. The estimated yield of 25.15 bushels per acre for this season s wheat crop is generally considered to be a very fair one. There is a scarcity of oats, and prices are firmer. For heavy Algerians and Duns up to 35.. and for Gartons up to 2s. 10d., is offered at country stations. Oatsheaf chaff is offering more freely, and £3 t,o £3 ss. at country stations is being paid. Ryegrass has firmed. The scc<i is mostly light, and for seed up to 231b- 3s. 6d. is now obtainable, while 241b. to 251b. seed would Tctvli&c 3s. 9d. A fair
amount ot business has been done ill potatoes, as Auckland will bp. in (lie market earlier than usual owing to the failure of tho crops there through so mucli wet weather, i'or March delivery £4 15s. to £6 has been (mid, and for April and llay delivery £4 ss. to £4.105. at cuuutry stations. IKB.'El' MARKET. The Bonk of England discount rate was on January 2, 1914, reduced from 5 to 45 per cent-, on January 22 it was reduced to 4 per cent., and on January 23 3 per cent. On July 30 the rate was raised to 4 per cent., and on July 31 it wa6 raised'to 8 per cent., and on August 1 it'-was further advanced to 10 per cent. Ori August 6 the rate was reduced to 6 per cent., on August 7 it was further reduced to'. 5 per cent., on July 13, 1916, it was raised to 6 per cent. OPES MARKET HATES. >' The open market discount rate for three, months' bills is 51- per efcnt.. as com-' par(\d with 5 1-16 per cent last week and s>per , cent. last year. Short loans arc quoted at 5 per' cent., as against 43 per cent, last week and 45 per cent, last year.
