MAGISTRATE'S COURT

POLICE CASES. Mr. L. G. Peid, S.M., presided at tho Magistrate's Court yesterday. An old offender, named Thomas Myers, alias Bennett, was convicted of stealing a pair of slippers, valued at; 55., Irom the shop of E Hannah and Co., on lebrnarv 8, and of committins a similar offence four days later. He was sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment on each charge, the terms to be cumufative. . For in'/jbriety Thomas lavin, against whom there were two previous convictions, was fined 205., in default three days' imprisonment, and one nrst offender, who did not appear, .was convicted and his bail estreated.

Braund -was ordered to pay Barber and Co. the sum of v£lß ISs. lid. by April 15, or serve seven days' imprisonment.

DEFENDED CASES. , ' • In the case of S. Smith and Sons (Motor Accessories. Ltd.), v. P. P v Wilkie, a claim for £1 10s. Id., judgment ■was given for plaintiff for the amount claimed with costs, and in .the case of Bristol Piano Co., Ltd.. v. Florence Amy Marshall, judgment for possession of a piano, valued at ,£45 55., was given for the plaintiff with' costs £Z Us. 6d. 'Joseph Nathan and Co., Ltd., for whom Mr. W. L. Rothenberg appeared, proceeded against L. W. Woollev, represented by Mr. Howard Hill, to recover £% 135., for goods sold and delivered. Defendant pleaded infanev. Decision was reserved. A case which occupied a considerable time was a claim brought hr Headland and Robinson, for whom Mr. J. J. M'Grath aupeared, to recover .£l6 Bs. lid. from Edward Gallagher, renresented by Mr. E.. C. Levvy. The claim was for reoairs to a Humbrette cycle car. The defendant disputed the claim, alleging that while the car was in the garage and before the work of repairing it had commenced it had been' used by someone without his authority, and the ; repairs were therefore greater than was really necessary before this occurred. A number of witnesses were called for the defence and at 5 p.m. the case was adjourned to Tuesday afternoon.
