A "BEER LESS" DAY SUGGESTED. (Roc. February 10, 8.10 p.m.) London, February 9. The Convocation of Canterbury has passed a resolution, favouring State purchase of the liquor trade. The Dean of Hereford suggested a beerless day. . Canon Aitken said that State purchase would enable a reduction in the strength to lio made. If beer was of tho same strength as German Isger, intemperance would decrease. The Dean of Canterbury opposed tho motion. Ho said alcohol was necessary to many people. Prohibition would result in the loss of a largo amount of mental energy. Ho deplored the effect of stopping the soldiers' spirit ration. The French troops' health had benefited bv drinking wines.—Aus.N.Z. Cable'Assn.
