All the Ministers who went south tq attend the funeral of the late Hon. Dr. M'Nab will return, to Wellington-this morning. Theso Ministers''were: The Hon. J. Allen, the Hon. W. Eraser, tho Hon. (i. W. llussell, the Hon. W. D S. MacDoiiald, and the Hon. J. A. Hanan. Police Inspector Edward Wilson, iu charge of W&nganui District, has been promoted to' the honorary lank of superintendent. Ho will take tho titjs of superintendent, but'.will not be entitled to tho pay of that'rank. Superintendent Wilson retires from tho force shortly on 'superannuation. Sir Arthur llutledge, a Queensland Judge, and formerly a- member of tho Queensland Assembly, is dead (states a l'rcss Association message from Sydney). Sir Arthur llutledgo was born tn Ponrith Now South Wales, in 18-13. He was called to the Queensland Bar in 1878, appointed a Q.O. in 1899, and Judgo in 1902. He was a member of tho Legislative Assembly for more than twenty years, and was Attorney-General in .several Ministries. It was announced recently that Caplain A. F. Batchelar, of tho Now land Expeditionary Force, had boon promoted to be major. This promotion was made) at the front ''for good service in the field," and is dated Apnl 12, 1916. Captain T. M'. Charters, now in camp, was on parade with B Company, Ist (Canterbury) Regiment for the last time on Monday night, says a Christchurch paper. During the courso of tho evening Captain Charters bade farewell to all ranks, and with well chosen words oxpresaed his regrot at leaving his company, but ?aid he felt his dnty lay elsewhore. Tho men gavo three rousing ohcers for their departing officer. At tho conclusion of tne parade, tho olficors' and non-commissioned officers met Captain Charters in the orderly room a pi;] presented him with a tangible token of thoir esteem. Lieut.-Colonel 'A. B. Captain J. A. Hay ward, assistant, harbourmaster, is at present in Miss Lucas's hospital, Upper 'Willis Street, to' undergo about four weeks', medical treatment. Chaplain-Captain 0. 11.I 1 . At a meeting of tlio Wellington bi'anch of the New Zealand Shipowners Federation held yesterday, reference was made to the loss to the Dominion through tlio death of the Hon. Dr. M'Nab, Minister of .lustiou and Marine. The meeting adopted a resolution ol sympathy with the relatives of Dr. M'Nab iu tho loss they have sustained. Messrs. Georgo 'Wright and Alexander J. Cameron liavo been reappointed by tho Government to be members of the Mawka's Bay Land Board. The Long Servico Medal has been awarded to Major J. Osburne-Lillj, 17th (Ruahine) Regiment, who lias completed twenty years of service. Sergt.-. Major T. J). Wrigley, R.N.Z.A., has been 'awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, and Gunner M. F. Johustoue, It.N.Z.A., and Guuner J. IT. Hunter, R.N.Z.A., the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. Reference to tho death of the Hon. R. M'Nab was made by the Mayor at tho City Council last evening. Mr. Luko said that all approciatcdjtho deceased Minister's work, ami Tiis zeal for tho community. Dr. M'Nab was an Imperialist too. On the motion of tlio Mayor tho council placed on record its high appreciation of the 'services, rendered by Dr. M'Nab in Dominion and Imperial affairs, his conscientious regard for duty, and: lib constant endeavour to further tho. best interests of tho community. Mr. I. A r . Wilson, who has been secretary of the AVairarapa, Automobile Association since its inception, lias resigned in order to go into camp. The committee of the association, at its meeting on Wednesday last, accepted Mr. Wilson's- resignation with regret, and recordod its appreciation of his invaluable services. Mr. A. Holms was appointed, on Mt. Wilson's motion, to succeed him as scoretary. A Press Association telegram from Duncdin states that Mr. Charles R. D. Richardson, Senior Inspector of Schools in Otago, died yesterday afternoon, following an operation for an internal • trouble.
