Mr. George Chirnsidc, of AVerribeo Park,' Victoria, left 'Wellington for Taupoand Rotorua on Tuesday. A cablegram has just been: received by Mrs. 15. I'. Hadfield that her sister, Mrs. Hugh Hollis, and her two small children, who were on board the Port Adelaide when she was torpedoed, were safely landed at Vigo, on the west coast of Spain. Mrs. Hollis wns on her way to join her husband, Captain Hollis, 'hi Sydney. Mr. Arthur George' Fell, brother of Dr. Ml, of Wellington, and of Mr. C. Y, Fell, of Nelson, died a-t his residence, Hobson Street, on Tuesday, at tho age of G9 years. The deceased was for many years one of the leading business men of Marlborougli, and the news of his demiso will bo received with great regret both there and in Nelson. Mr. Fell was the third son of the late Mr. Alfred 'Poll, who arrived in Nelson from England in 1842, and there founded the firm of Cock and' Co., for so long associated with Nelson. The deceased was educated in England, where ho remained for thirteen years. In 1871 ho returned to New Zealand, and commenced business in Blenheim. Ho subsequently sold nut to lievin and Co., of Wellington, and 'afterwards commenced business as a maltster in Picton, whero ho remained up till- a few years' ago, when ho settled'in AVellinglon. 'At one tinio nr other Mr.*-Fell was a member of tho Blenheim Borough Council, the Marlborough Education Board, chairman of tho .Picton Hospital Board and Picton Borough Council. His wifo died ovor two years ago, and ho Jias loft a. family of two daughters (Mrs. Frank Dillon, of Blenheim, and Mrs. K. R. D.vmoi'k, of Wellington) and four sons (Mr. Soymoiir. Fell, of Picton, Mr. Gerald Fell, who practised as a solicitor in Wellington until he went away with the Seventh Reinforcements, Mr. Anthony C. Fell, who left with the Motor Boat Patrol, and Mr. Walter Fell, of Tjoiiglmrn). Dr. Fell, now in Europe, and "Air. 0. V. Fell, solicitor, of Nelson, aro his brothers. The late Mr. Fell was in his younger days a very fine oarsman and yachtsman, and was also a cayilal chess nlaycr. Mr. Wm. I'orguson is retiring from the position of chairman of tho Wellington War Relief Association, in order to dovoto himself to the work of the National Efficiency Board, of which lie is the chairman. Advices received by Mr. W. R. Clark, of Mataniata, show that his son, Max Clark, of the Auckland Mounted Rifles, who was wounded on September 22, was promoted from a corporal 'lo sergeant soon after his return to tho firing line. Later on ho received the Military Medal for gallant behaviour on the field, and also became platoon sergeant. His decoration was conferred on the field by tho General Commanding tho Second Army, while Mr, Masso.y and Sir Joseph Ward were visiting the New Zealand Forces in tho Sommo district. Sergeant Clark was then recommended for commissioned rank, and at the present time ho is studying at Worcester College, Oxford. Colonel E. N. L. Okey, V.D., brother of Mr. H. J. H. Okey,'M.P., died at Now Plymouth on Monday, at the ase of 62 years. He tad been in ill-health for some time. Colonel Okey. who was born in Gloucestershire, came to Now Zealand when he was three years of age, aud his parents settled in Tarauaki in 1557. H had an interesting military record,' ami was at one time one of tho finest rifle shots in the Dominion. He enrolled in the Eginont Rifle Volunteers in March, IS7I, and remained a member of tho corps until it was disbanded in 187-1. He soon afterwards became connected with the Taranaki Riflo Volunteers. In 1880 he won tho New Zealand Riflo Association's champion bolt, and on several occasions lie gained the regimental championship belt. In ISB2, after six years' service with the Taranaki Rifles, Mr. Okey was given a commission. Ho rose gradually from sub-lieutenant, and in 1904 he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant-colonel, with the command of tho 4th Battalion Wellington Riflo Volunteers. retired in August, 1911, with tho rank of honorary colonel. Ho leaves a widow aud two daughters. Mr. Claude C. Corbctt, who. recently went from the Sydney "Sim" staff to the news editorship of the "Sunday Times" (Sydney), has been appointed managing editor of that concern. Mr. Corhctt has many friends in New Zealand.

A colonist of nearly sixty yearf standing died last week—Mr. J. N-' Peeler, of Raglan, wlio was in hie eightieth year. Mr. Pegler was a native- of Leeds, Yorkshire, and arrived in Auckland about the year 1859. One son, Private John A. Pegler, has fought in tho New Zealand Expeditionary Force through tho Gallipoli and Sommo campaigns, and is still "in the trenches. Mr. John Fuller, senr., arrived here from Auckland via Gisborne and Napier by motor-car last evening, and left for tho south by the Maori. Mr. Charles Warton, District Accountant for tho Post Office in Netson, is a visitor to Wellington. 3liss N. ,E. Coad, M.A., has been appointed to the secondary department of tho Groytown District High School.
