A COLD SNAP

Quit® a bitter chill was in the air. yesterday. Early in the morning a furious southerly blast came up from the Antarctic on 3. bleak sky, with heavy rain-squalls. The force of tha wind died down as the day wore on, and the squalls came at longer internals. Acoording to the Meteorological' Department's report, the indications at • present are for high sou'-westsrs, with ■ cold and changeable weather, and heavy showers in most parts of tho country. Tho barometer is rising everywhere.
