At the monthly'meeting of the BoarcC of Directors of the Wellington Young Men's Christian Association last evening, Mr, J. llott, prosident, presented his resignation. Mr. Ilott was compelled to do this by reason of his health and upon the advice of his physicianMr. W. 11. George was unanimously voted president to succeed Mr. Ilott.

Advico has been received by Mr. T« ft. Wallace, secretary of tho New Zealand branch of the .Marino Engineers'' Institute, of tho death in Auckland* on Sunday, of Mr. Samuel Hanna, secretary of the Auckland branch of thab' organisation. Tho deceased, who was a native of Ireland, arrived in Auckland in 1860, and learned the engineering; trade from Messrs. M. and G.Lukey, and Mr. T. T. Masefield in that city.He was an engineer on tho Phoebo and l the Southern Cross,, awl then becamo chief engineer of tho Auckland Cityj Pumping Station. Later on he was chief engineer and general manager oC the Auckland Freezing Company. , Ho was a prominent Mason.. For soiii® time past he had been in bad health.
The death occurred at Lceston last; week of Mr. James Holloy, au old and respected Canterbury, settler, brother of tho Very Rev. Dean Holley, Provincial of tho Marist Order in New Zealand. , ' •
News has been received by cablegram of the death in London of Mr. A. S. Ottersou, a member of a well-known Nelson family-

The death lias occurred at Cambridge of Mr.'Thomas Nixon, an esteemed resident of 38 years' standing, at the ago of 76 years. Tho deceased was at,the Thames in the days of the gotd rush. Mrs. Nixon predeceased her- husband two or three years ago. There is a. grown up family of six daughters and two sons, most of whom reside in Cambridge.
