THE BLOCK AT GISBORNE
By Telegraph—Press Association. Glsborne, February 5. A new situation occurred yesterday in connection with the watersiders' dispute. Permanent lightermen refused Sunday work, and were dismissed. The men engaged on the Monowai to-day refused to work unless the men wero reinstated'. Tho company refused to reinstate the men. The Monowai was not lightered. The Chamber of Commerce mediated, and met the employers and delegates from the union, with the result that the union is to redisouss its decision. Thcro Svill bo a serious position unless a settlement is reached, as most of the inward cargo is worked in the roadstead. The Arahnra on Sunday .'ovor-carried her Gisb'orne cargo, and tho Monowai carried on to Auckland 200 tons. ( OVERTIME DISPUTE AT WANGA- '•■■ NUI. Wanganui, February 5. . .The watersiders assembled for work at 8 o'clock this morning on the wharf, but on account of not being willing to work overtime, no men wero engaged. The men state that they aro willing to work eight hours a day,' but they Object to unlimited hours.
