A conference of delegates from thi Agricultural and Pastoral Association! in the Wellington provincial distric was hold! in tho Manawatu A. and P Association's rooms on Friday for tin electing a district represen tativo on the Board of Agriculture. Mr. J. M. Johnston (president of tin Manawatu A. and P. Association) pre sided, and tho following'delegates weri present:—Manawatu: Messrs. T. R llodder and W. M'Kenzie. Masterton Mr. D. M'Gregor. Carterton: Mr. A W. Smart. . Wanganui: Mr. C. Russell Feilding: Messrs. J. H. Perrett and H Burrell. Now Zealand Romney Marsl Sheep Breeders' Association: Mr. A Matthews. The chairman briefly outlined the ob ject of the meeting. Tho Act ]>rovide< that every three years tho various dis tricts, of which there were four in cacl island, \vere called upon to elect i member to the Board of Agriculture Referring to the board, Mr. Johnstoi said that no report of the board's weri was available, but it did not appea: that natch had been accomplished dur ing the last torm. There appeared ti bo a clog to the wheels somewhere. Ii Mr. Perry, the speaker said they ha< one of the best men in the district fo their representative. Ho had given hi: time and talents for the general good and the Manawatu Association had re cognised this by making him their nom inee for the present election. Tin chairman said he hoped that the rex term a better record 'of the hoard': work would be kept, and that mori would be accomplished. Mr. T. R. Hodder moved that Mr AV. T. Perry, being the Manawatu As sociation's nominee, be elected to thi board. Mr. Perry had proved himsel: a good: member, and had won their con iidence, and was the best n.an for tin position. Referring to there being nt report on the board's work during thi past term, Mr. Hodder said at a meet ing of that description they shcuk have something before them cf thi work done during last term, and a srg gestion should be made to the Govern ment to have this remedied in the future. In seconding the motion, Mr. M'Gre gor said he knew Mr. Perry very veil and could say that very few realisec the work tho Board of Agriculture en tailed. Mr. Perry took his work Vbrj seriously, and devoted a lot of time tc agricultural matters, experimental farms, and in attending meetings nitl; agricultural experts in Wellington anc different parts of the district. Mr Perry and the members of, tho P-'aic of Agriculture had done a great deal, and the speaker quite agreed with tlx previous delegate's remarks that the work of thi; board should be made more public. Thei country should Know whj certain matters had been turned down Recommendations had been made to the Minister and had not been acted upon and the reasons should be made known, There being no further nominations Mr. Perry was declared elected. Mr. Perrett supported the suggestior that a report of the Board of Agriculture's work should bo available, anc that A. and P. Associations should h« supplied with such reports.' A lot oi work was being done, but tho co'.intrj didn't know what it was. Mr. Matthews suggested, that Iho report should be an annual one. Mr. Perrett agreed and moved: "That this meeting is of opinion thai an annual report of the work done by the Board of Agriculture should be available to all' the bodies concerned in the election of same." The motion was seconded by Mr. Russell and carried. A motion of thanks to Mr. Perry for his past services on the board was carried unanimously-. At the Hawke's Bay R-am Fair, Mr. E. Eglington sold 325 sheep, which realised £5500, two-shear averaging £17 12s, Gd., and shearling £16 10s.
