THE LEVIN SHOW
RECORD ENTRIES LIST OP THE AWARDS The eleventh annual show of the'Horowhenua Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held on the Levin Racecourse yesterday. The etock shown was considered to be an improvement on the stock shown at previous 'shows, and the entries -were greater in number than over before. The judge\of the dairy cattle (Mr. E. Eagle, of Carterton) said that in this department the entries were about the beat he had eeen. The show "was to liave been opened by the Minister of Agriculture (the Hon. W. D.S. MaeDonald), but he sent a telegram saying he was-detained in Wellington by Cabinet business. The member for the district (Mr. AT. H. Field) performed the opening ceremony. In introducing Mr. Field, the president of the association. (Mr. W. Tompsitt) said that some time ago .the question had been raised as to whether a show .should ho held this year. The association had decided to go on with tho fixture, and they had acted" wisely. It was a patriotic show,- and he trusted the patriotic funds would benefit cqneiderably by it. Last year the association had given .£125 to the Patriotic Society, and had' still had £90 in hand. This year they expected to double the amount, because there was a generous donation of .£IOO from Mr. '8. Kirkcaldie and a -present of £25 from the I Levin Park Co.; and Mr. Kirkcaldie, , sen., had made a handsome donation to ■the prize fund. Mr. Field said that it came as a sur--prise to be called on, as he had fully expected that the Minister would be present. The (association had acted wisely in deciding to hold the show. He had seen some of the stock exhibited, and thought they were excellent. He was glad to hear of the association's strong financial position. As the money from this show was to be devoted to patriotic nurposes he trusted that those who could would dip deeply, and mako the function as great a success as possible. .The least we could do was to help those who had gone to the' front, and their dependants. • THE PRIZE LIST.
