CITY RESERVES
VISITED BY REPRESENTATIVE NURSERYMEN. Referring to tho visit of the nurserymen of Now Zealand to the City reserves last week, the Mayor (Mr. J. J. . Luke) eaid yesterday that the visitors were rory much impressed with the natural beauty of Day's Bay, and wore astonished at the vast amount of improvement work which had been done there in the face of difficulties. Iho consonsus of opinion among the nurserymen was that Central Park was destined to bo a very picturesque spot in the heart of the City and an asset of which the City, would be proud. It possessed natural features that lent themselves to landscape gardening, scenic beauty, and recreative indulgence. They especially 'singled out Central Park for a chorus of praiso, and noted the growth of the trees and the fine ornamental work that had already been done by the council. The visitors coiiM not find words to express their admiration for the Botanical Gardens, saying that they were nob awaro, though in the business so to speak, that Wellington possessed such magnificent gardens. The praise lavishwll on them was enthusiastic iu the extreme, and must have been very gratifying to the responsible officials. On tho Town Belt they expressed considerable surpriso at tho apparently overwhelming number of pines (pinus in«'>nis Mint- lind been' planted. It was explained, however, that these had niiiy !«.■!■]£ planted to provide shelter for other trees which required nurturing for the first throe or four years of their existence. The growth of the ■'"""' nt Section 48, near the Kelburn BowKng Greon, was noted with particular ;>iiasiire, and the trees planted , on the Tinakori hills all appeared! to be doing well.
