By Telegraph—Press Assn. Palmerston North, January 29. Tho Chamber of Commerce to-night passed a resolution protesting to Mr. Hiley, General Manager of Railways, against the Department not having a proper system of patrol of flax areas in the North Island, thereby jeopardising enormous areas of valuable country. A fire broko out in Mr. S. Seifort's swamp at Tokomaru to-day. Between forty and seventy acres of flax was burned. Tt, is surmised that tho fire ■was kindled by a spark from a passing locomotive.
