A BLISTERING DAY
In the opinion of many perspiring individuals m the' city yesterday, yesterday's weather was "the hottest yet." Tho proximity of an anti-cyclone —centred in the vicinity of Hie Chathams —is mentioned in tho official report by tho Meteorological Office The smoko from many bush fires on the eastern hills hung over tho city and harbour in a heat haze, intensifying tho temperature. Freshening southerlies sro prodicted for this region and in tho south, with a continuance of warm and hazy conditions, and increasing cloudiness preceding a general change. The- barometer has a falling tendency.
The heat has been general. A Press Association message from Gore states that yesterday, with a maximum temperature of 92 degrees, was the record hot' day in Gore for upwards of seven yoars. Warm and hazy conditions have ruled and are likely to continue for a while, with unsettled weather and a change following. Moderate to strong northerly, prevailing and increasing, is the forecast as far as the winds are concerned.
