METHODIST CHURCH

Tho Quarterly meeting of the Board of Management of the Taranaki Street Methodist Church was held last Wednesday evening, and ivas presided over by tho Eev. J. 6. Chapman. The work of the circuit during the past quarter revealed satisfactory progress in all departments. Tho membership roll showed a total of 797 senior and junior members, an increase of 45 on last quarter's returns. The balance-sheets snowed a credit balance of. £31 on the quarter. The annual - balance was read and adopted, and also showed a credit balance. The annual election of circuit stewards resulted in the re-election of Messrs. W. Si. Bedstone and F. Chinchen for 1917 t who were also chosen lay representatives to tho conference to be held in Wellington nest month, with M,essrs. G. Williams and T. M'Dowall as substitute representatives. It was reported that tho circuit income for foreign missions during the year exceeded all past returns. Tho:liberality of tho people in this respect was highly commended. It was decided to recognise the services of "the Rev. J. H. White, of Brooklyn, by an increase in stipend and a request to the conference for his retention in the circuit for another year. !A. new Sunday School house is urgently required for Brooklyn for the successful carrying on of an increasing attendance of children. Steps aro to be taken to supply this muchfelt want.
