The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Oo.'s report for the week ending January 20 is:-At Apiti on Tuesday a small entry met with a.fair sale. Sheep: Cull lambs, 10s. 6d.; two-tooth wethers, 325. 4d.; fat woolly owes, £2 35.; fat ewes and .wethers, 345. Cattle: Weaner steers (extra sood), £5 2s. 6d.; empty heifers, £7 ss. to £7 165.; cow in milk, £6 7s. 6d.; aged store cow, £5; bulls, £6/10s. to £10. At Kongotea on Wednesday we had a full yarding of cattle, but few sheep. All lines mot with a good sale, and we disposed of practically every pen at auction. Small weaners, 375.; yearling heifers, £4; aged store cows. £2 155., £3 17s. 6d.: fair store cows, £5 135., £7, £8, £8 17s. 6d.; forward cows, £9 10s., £9 125., £10. £10 45., £10 10s.: fat, and forward cows, £11 55., £11 7s. 6d.; forward heifers, £9 Us.; fat heifers. £11 15?., £12; fat cows, £12 55.. £12 95., £13 2s. 6d., £13 65., £14 55.; good springing heifers, £11 155.; potter bulls. £7. 15s. to £12; extra heavy bulls, to £17 55.; forward twotooth wethers, 345. 7d.; pigs, slips. 125.; good stores, 265., 275., 305.: porker 6, 345. 7d. At Feilding on Friday we had a fair entry 1 ' of sheep and cattle, and have to report a good clearance. Sheep: Cull lambs, 7s. 4d. to 7s. 7d.; small lambs, 10s. fd. to lis. Id.; fair lambs, 15s. ,9d. Cattle: Weaner heifers, £3; agedxstorc cows, £5; light fat cows, £11 3s. to £13 10s.; heavy fat cows, £14 Us. to £14 175.; light fat bullocks, £16 ss.;\cows, with calves. £12 55.; bulls. £9 10s. to £10 10s. Wo held our weekly salo at Eketahuna on Friday, when we offered a good yarding of sheep and a small one of cattle to a good attendance. Bidding for wethers and good ewes was keen, but lambs were not much in demand. We quote :—Two-tooth wethers, 325. 4d.; four-tooth to f.m. ewes, 32?. 3d.; good b.f. rape lambs. 21s. 6d.; small b.f. lambs, 13s. 3d., 13s. 6d., s l4s. At Alfrodton on .Thursday we had a good yarding of sheep and a fair one of cattle, which we submitted to a large attend— ance of buyers. Bidding was spirited
throughout tho pale, and with tho exception oi\onc pen of lambs wo made a total clearance under tho hammer as follows: —Four-tooth wethers, 36>i.; two-tooth wethers, 28s. 6d., 29a;, 305., 31s. 6d., 325. 6d.; b.f. rape lambs, 17s. to 21s. 6d.: cull lambs. 135.; backward four and' five-year ewes, 275. 3d.; fat cows, £11 ss. to £12 10s.; fat three-year" heifers, £12 10s.; store cows, £9 2s. 6d.; two-year heifers, £7 2s. 6d.; two-year steers, £7 17s. 6d.; three-year do.. £14 155.; eighteen-month, Bteers, £6 95.: eighteen-month heifers, £5 2s.
Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Ltd., Palmerston North, roport navinp had a good entry of sheep and a small yarding of cattb at their Fcildiuß sale on Friday. Bidding was not animated, and several lines wcro turned out unsold. Quota/tions:—Sheep: Cull lambs, to lis. 9d.; medium lambs, to 15s. 10d.; two-tooth wethers, 295. 3d. to 30s. 3d.; four-tooth wethers, to 335.; fat and forward ewes, 21s. 6d. to 255. 6d.; fat ewes, 325. 6d. to 345.; light fat ewes, 30a. 6d.; small two-tooth ewes, 275.; two-tooth ewes, 335. 3d. to 355. 4d.; four and six-tooth ewes, to 38s. 2d. Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Dannevirko, report:—At our weekly stock sale, held at Dannevirke on Friday, we offered a big yarding of sheep and a fair entry of cattle to a good attendance of buyers. Tho demand for big sheep and cattle was good, but lambs did not meet with tho 6ame comsetition as at previous sales, and wo pissed in at auction a couple of big lines, these failing to react the vendors' reserves. We had a good clearanco of t'thor lines at satisfactory prices. We Quote as follows:—Fat wethers, to 395„ ex E. W. Pooie, Motoa; fat ewes, to 355. 7d.; i.wo-tOL.-iii vvotners, IKs. The Wairarapa Farmers' Co-operative Association, Ltd., report having held their sale at Carterton on Friday, and they report having yarded a heavy entry of sheep and cattle. There was a fair sale at the following prices :—Fat ewes' made 325. to 345.; fat wethers. 335. 6d. to 455. for extra prime; forward ewes, 305.; two and four-tooth, ewes and wethers, 325. to 335.; aged ewes, 20s. 3d.; woolly lambs, 19s. to 215.; black-face rapo lambs, 17s. 2d., 17s. 9d., to Ws. 3d.; fat cows, £11, £12 2s. £d.; cows mid calves, £12; two-year steers,' £11 Us.; forward ompty cows, £8, £9, £9 10s., to £10 155.; aged cows, £4 ss. to £6; bulls, of which there was a larEOentry, made £4 to £12, according to weight; weaner calves, made 305., £2, £2 10s., ,£3, £3 2s. 6d„ to £3 55.; store pigs, £1.
Newton Kjng, New' Plymouth, reports;—At Stratford on Tuesday thero was a good entry, witlt a good inquiry throughout. Small store cows made from £6 ss. to £7 125.; better stores, £8 Is. to £9; forward cows, up to £11 2s. 6d.; fat cows, £12 7s. to £14; fifteen-month heifers, £5 10s. to £7 75.; small fifteen-month, steers, £7 10a.; heavy bulls, £15 ss. to £17 155.; others, £9 10s. to £12 2s. 6d.; small mixed weaners, £2 35.; lambs, 18s. 6(1., 18s. 5d., 17s. lCd.; culls, 12s. lid. At Inglewood on Wednesday both cattle and sheep came forward in excess of advertised numbers. Buyers were present in largo numbers, and all classes met a good inquiry, especially good-conditioned cows, sheep and weaners. llessrs. A. J. Cooper and Co. report having held, a succesal'ul stock sale at "Mr. il. J. It'Grcgor's Hikoraugi yards on Thursday. That this annual fixture is becoming a very important .one was evidenced by the attendance 1 on Thursday, buyers being present from all pans of the district. The slock was in exceptionally good condition, and being well yarded met with keen competition on all sides. There was yarded a total of 6135 sheep, of which only one pen of fat wethers went out unsold, and out of a total of 263 cattle yarded only one pen was taken back by the vendor. Amongst the cattle was a particularly fine lino of 54 yearling steers, offered on account of Mr. M'Gregor, which elicited considerable competition, and was finally knocked down at the record price of £13 6s. per head:. Prices were recorded as follow :-On account of Mr. 11. J. M'Gregor: 1422 twotooth wethers, 325. 9d.; 250 four-year-old ewes, 355. 6d.; 300 do., 345. 6d.; 382 do., 335. 6d.: 138 fat wethers. 375. 4d.; 267 fut owes, 345. 7d,; 18-5 two-tooth wethers (small). 285.; 109 '.two-tooth ewes (small), 265.; 118 cull ewes, 275.; 450 cull shorn lambs, 10s.; 54 yearling steers, £13 65.; 33 yearling heifers, £9 55.; 12 cows in calf, £13 65.; 8 yearling steers, £9 145.; two fat bullocks, £18 2s. On behalf of the Red Cross Fund, a bullock, donated by Mr. A. P. Whatman, was sold several times, and realised £54, and a cow, donated by Mr. E. v O. Smith, realised £11 15s.
