WATER-FRONT DISPUTE SETTLED
CASE OF THE ADMIRALTY COLLIER
AN EXTRA SIXPENCE
The difficulty in connection with the unloading of an Admiralty collier in Wellington has been removed, and work started on the vessel on Saturday morning. After the Minister of Labour •(Hon. W. H.-Herries) had addressed a gathering of waterside workers on Friday, a meeting of the Waterside Disputes Committee was held. The Minister attended and gave the information at his disposal concerning the movements of the ship and the vise to be made of the coal. Tho representatives of the union expressed themselves as satisfied ou these points. The committee then considered the conditions of work on the collier. Finally it was agreed that in viow cf the dusty nature of the coal and otner special circumstances, the Govorninien* should pay fxl. per hour above the award rates for discharge. This extra payment would be made also in the cases of other Admiralty boats bringing foreign coal to Wellington. The agreement reached by the Disputes Committee was reported to a meeting of the union early on Saturday morning. After some questions had been asked and answered the meeting accepted the arrangement and the unloading of the collier was begun at once,
