O'CONOR INSTITUTE TRUST

Tho lato Mr. Eugene J. O'Conor, ex-M.P. for tho Buller district, who died in 1912, devised his estate—save for a few legacies—to a Trust Board, consisting of the member for Buller, the Maj-or of Westport, and tho Archbishop of Wellington, for the erection of a homo for the destitute children and old people of both sexes. The homo, which it was provided should oe open to persons of all denominations, is to bo under tho management of the Sisters of Mercy, or such other order as tho Archbishop shall direct. Tho board has held several meetings, and visited tho freehold site at the NineMile, Wcstport, bequeathed "by Mr. O'Conor for tho purpose. At tho meeting on Friday last tho board's architects, Messrs. Swan and Swan, submitted tenders which bad been called for in Wellington, Westport, _ and Greymouth. After careful consideration tho tender of Messrs. Watt and Scanlon, of Westport, was accepted, and the building will be erected forthwith. It is hoped to complete tho building, which is to be of brick with asbestos roof, within seven months. Accommodation will bo provided for ten children of each sex and five aged men and an equal number of women- will ihave comfortable single rooms in sepa--1 rate wings.
