SUBMARINE WAR
DIFFICULTIES WHICH MUST BE FACED London, January 16. While many naval writers in Germany are seeking to lull tho hunger for revolt by inspired statements that tho British merchant fleet Tfill_.be swept from the seas in the spring, Captain Porsius, tho naval writer to tho "Berliner Tagcblatt," sounds a note of warning. He says:—"The more serious tho submarine war bocomes tho greater are the difficulties which must be faced. Enemy merchantmen are more strongly armed, and tho skill of the captains in repelling attacks increases tho number of enemy instruments for destroying submarines. , It would bo a sin against our people to say- wo can starve England by a turn of tho hand. We cherish the expectation that the enemy will not he able to adapt themselves to an intensification of the economic war, but the futuro conceals who will hold out the longest."—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
