MAGISTRATE'S COURT
MISCELLANEOUS OASES. Mr. S. E. M'Cnrthy, S.M., presided over a sitElng of the Magistrate's Court yesterday morning. James Kidd, a seaman, who had left Now Zealand, was convicted on charges of insobriety and the use of obscene language, and was fined 20s. on each. Sidney Houguenot Fournier was remanded till to-day on a charge of making a seditious utterance at a meeting held in (Clyde Quay on January 7. Hilda Koherstein, aged 22 years, was remanded for a week on a charge of; attempting to commit suicide at Carterton.
Patrick Oates, charged with using obscene language, resisting the police, and failing to apply for enrolment under the Military Service Act, was further remanded for a week for medical observation.
For habitually consorting with reputed prostitutes, Florence Westonj Ellen Hawthorne, and Teenie Rogers wore each sentenced to six months' imprisonment with hard labour. Kathleen Van Cant,- deemed to be an incorrigible rogue, received for a similar offence a sentence of 12 months' imprisonment with hard labour. For a breach of a prohibition order, Isidore Jacobus was fined £2, with the alternative of seven days' imprisonment
J. 8.. Maboy, convicted of cruelly illtreating a horse by working it while it was suffering from sores, was fined £2, with tho alternative of 14 days.
For disobeying maintenance orders, Benjamin Ede was sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment. Stephen Edo and William G. H. Baillie to three months' imprisonment, and Thomas Hodges to six months' imprisonment, in default of payment of arreas.
