MAKARA COUNTY COUNCIL
Tho monthly meeting of tho Makara County Council was held yesterday morning. Councillor J. H. Haggerty presided, and there were also present: Councillors 3. Monaghan, A. J. Taylor, W. IVlexted, S. Bryant, G. Monk. Councillor Mexted reported on. tho amount of gorse trees, etc., obstructing the road, and recommended that while tho council was dealing with tho matter a largo number of people be requested t<i romove these nuisances, 'this recommendation was adopted, and letters wero addressed to a number of people occupying" property' wbero plant growths were overhanging or obstructing..tho roads.. If the request in the Totters .are not complied .with tho council intends to go further in tho matter.
Mr. Reynolds, of Ohariu, was appointed temporary ranger for the county with the prospect of permanent appointment on the decision of tho council in a month's time. Tho appointment of a dog-tax registrar was left over and tho registration ,feo for all dogs throughout the county was 'fixed at 2s. 6d.
It was decided, 011 tho motion of Councillor Bryant, seconded by Councillor Taylor, that the_ carters throughout tho County Council and in the employ of tho council be granted ono shilling a day extra pay."
