Duneflln, January 9. The Military Sendee Board continued '&■& sittings to-day. Horace James S. Hargood, flockmill hand at Boslyn, an - only son with a wife and invalid mother ■= to'"rapport, applied for exemption. - The appeal dismissed with regret. Joseph Thos. Cowley, seaman, Port Chalmers, applied for exemption .on the ground of public; interest.—Ad- • ; journed for a month' to give the appellant an opportunity to 6ign on a ship. ■William Warden Wilson, • sanitary plumber, Dunedin, appealed on the ground of undue hardship.—-Appeal allowed on publio grounds. William Escott, of Dunedin, appealed on the ground of undue hardship. It appeared that none out of the family" of four sons had enlisted.—The appeal dismissed. The appeal of Peter Fisher, kitehenman, Dunedin, on the . ground that i he was over age, was adjourned to enablo proof to be submitted. ' John Alexander Grant, dairyman, Ravensbourne, claimed undue hardship, havink a widowed 1 mother to Support. He had one brother who was going into camp. The case was. adjourned for medical examination. William Gemmell, joiner, St. Eilda, appealed on the ground of undue hardship, and was allowed a month in ■ which to settle his affairs. John Graham, teacher, Caversbam, withdrew his appeal. Henry Alfred Hogg, watchmaker, Maori' Hill, pleaded hardship, having , three brothers at the front.—Adjourned for'further consideration. • Wm. John Mitchell, grocer, East Valley, claimed undue naraship, having two brothers at t*o front, and parents and family dependent on hun.The appeal was dismissed. The appeal of Bertie Byford,\ foreman fitter, Dunedin, was dismissed. James Gray, jun., and Wm. Gray, coalminers, of Green Island, appealed -on the'ground of public interest. In answer to questions the former said he had never heard his father say that ■ the British could get Chinamen to fieht ' for them—they would never clt is sons. Wm. Gray denied haying said that the military authorities would never get him to fight, in© case was adjourned till the next sitting of ,the .Board, to enable books to be produced showing the output of coal for tho past year. ? The appeal of Peter Fisher,, hotel kitchenman, on the ground of being over aee was adjourned for further inquiry. •An appear by Alfred James M'Gregor, gardener, on similar grounds was allowed, and also that.of David Mitirhead, carter, of Mosgiel. . ' John Graham, a schoolteacher, asked for time to enable him to sit for his examination, and on being , told that he would not bo called up till February the appeal was withdrawn. - Appeals by Hegmald Hector Gillan, carrier, and James Emmett Hussey, carter, who did not appear, were dismissed. ~ , r ... . . . Tho appeal of Daniel James Gilchrist, general labourer, who also did not appear, was adjourned to give appellant another ■ opportunity of appearing. Documents showing that a case of undue hardship seemed to exist, the only other son'having been killed at the front.
