SHOOTING AFFRAY AT MARTON
RETURNED SOLDIER ARRESTED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Marton, January 8. A shooting effray took place at Marton Junction early on Sunday morning. Robert Elder attempted to enter the residence of Stephen Fisher, a returned soldier. Failing in this, he was walking away, when it is alleged that Fisher fired several bullets from a ' Winchester rifle. One struck a hook in Elder's kip-pocket, inflicting a flesh wound. Another bullet struck Elder on the right ribs. Elder was taken to Wanganui Hospital. No serious complications are anticipated. ; Fisher was arrested and charged with discharging firearms with intent to do bodily'inarm. He was remanded till January 15, bail beine: accepted, in his own recognisance for £50, and a surety for £200.
