DAYLIGHT SAVING SCHEME
ITS MANY DISABILITIES. (Rec. January 8, 10.20 p.m.) Sydney, January 8. Liko all innovations, the daylight, saving scheme is not meeting irith uni- . vorsal approbation. It came in with a heat wave, which continue to lend zest, to the growing list of disabilities which are being voiced through newspaper, correspondences. While ing business behests, thero is a distinct disinclination in private life to recognise tho changed clock hours. Housewives and boardinghouse-keepers conii ; plain that diners have struck against having tic evening meal till the cool following sunset, and this spells a. longer day and heavier duties for domestic workers. Another disability iu a, hot climate is that the retiring hour is earlier iu heat-soaked houses, which, however, is being very generally ignored, with the result that people lay abed longer, and are robbed of the cool ,inorniiig hours' exorcise, while ~ early morning workers protest that they ' are compelled to retire before dark, and for the hour of working timo gain- > ed they loso three hours' good sleep.— Press Association.
