ROSE AND CARNATION SHOW

AN EXCELLENT DISPLAY. The Wellington lioso and Carnation Club's annual show was held on Saturday afternoon, being opened by the prosiuent ot tlio cluu (iui , . J. 11. Harcourt). Tho slioiv was ju many rospwub a notablo -success. -'J.ho display of e'ai'iiatiohs was generally voteii to be one of tho best yet seen in Wellington, and certainly soiiic of the finest blooms yet shown in Wellington were in Mr. H. A. Fox's exhibit. He had the honour of securing the'special distinction , of the award for the champion bloom of the show—a. splendidly grown yellow self named ''Daffodil." ' But the selection of'a-champion'bloom'from his exhibit- was only a matter of taste. He had other blooms in rare shades, and almost as well grown. Another feature of the show was a very fine display of sweet peas grown by Mr. G. C. Holder, of Pdrirua. This exhibit, it should be stated, was very tastefully arranged. Other, sections of the show outside of the competitive ones were an exhibit of roses from the Zoo rosary, and tho stand of roses and pot plants by Mr. Waujrji,- nurseryman, of Lower Hutt. Altogether'tho'quality of the show was- high.■• Indeed, in quality and freshness of blooms the "show compares very favourably with those of other years. The principal awards were as ioll'uw: — . '
